The new Autumn / Winter 2010 collection by Yumi is a positive progression in design, fusing the quirky silhouette with a darker undertone, and a deeper emphasis on fabrication and finish creating modern must-have items.
Divided into three distinct themes, ‘Enchanted Darkness’ provides inspiration for the first story with a twisted take on the traditional fairytale. Inspired by moonlit gardens enlivened with multicolour firework sparks. Intriguing and compelling, feminine and dark, floral prints are blurred and distorted to arresting results. Structured tailoring techniques applied to shoulders create a unique and contemporary silhouette. A predominately monochrome colour palette of ink tones set against a rainbow of brights highlighted with metallic flashes.
The world of luxury and opulence provides inspiration for the backdrop to the second story, fusing romance and historical dress with modern design; a truly ‘Romantic Lux’ collection of must-haves. Pearls and chains are set against textured fabrics with added shimmer and opulent faux fur to create a luxurious feel. Gothic undertones can be seen throughout the collection whilst envisage a colour palette featuring precious blacks, whites from vanilla to snow and warmth added through chocolate berry tones.
The finale to the collection offers story-telling reminiscence for every little girl at heart with ‘Winter Nostalgia’. Scandinavian log cabins and roaring fires set the scene, vintage wooden soldiers and dolls add innocence to the range. Remaining true to the youthful aspects of the Yumi style but with twists of chic styling, quirky fairisle knits displaying folk hearts and love- birds whilst crocheted necklines add a classic edge to these soft shift shapes.
